Today marks the 1-year anniversary of David Bowie’s death. I’m incredibly sad about that, and I’m never really this sad about celebrities’ passings.
I can’t say I was an enthusiastic die hard fan when he was alive, though I was bit more than just a casual admirer (Tin Machine, anyone?). I own a number of albums (and not just the classics or the compilations, mostly his recent 90s/00s work), but I never saw him live.
But his death turned out to be a catalyst to dig a little deeper into his catalogue, mostly his 70s work. And before I knew it, I was listening to Bowie pretty much every day again. It’s a bit sad that it took his passing to rediscover him, but I appreciate his music and his coolness more than ever now.
Earlier today, I heard Starman on the radio: “There’s a starman waiting in the sky, he’d like to come and meet us but he thinks he’d blow our minds” and I couldn’t think of anything more sad, or true.
